The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee is scheduled to hold a May 22 hearing on hydrogen hubs and climate change.

Panelists expected to provide comments include--

-- Dr. Richard Howarth, Professor of Ecology and the Environment, Cornell University

-- Dr. Pete Budden, Advocate, Climate & Clean Energy Program, National Resources Defense Council

-- Joanne Kilgour, Executive Director, Ohio River Valley Institute

-- Abby Smith, President and CEO, Team PA

-- Tom Murphy, Senior Managing Director & Strategic Energy Initiatives, Team PA

-- Martin Williams, National Coordinator of State Legislative Affairs, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers

-- Nick Cohen, President and CEO, Doral Renewables LLC

-- John Henderson, Vice President, Doral Renewables LLC

According to the Committee announcement, hydrogen hubs are intended to foster networks of hydrogen producers, consumers and connective infrastructure to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a cleaner energy source.

As part of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the federal government plans to identify six to 10 hydrogen hubs across the United States at locations not yet selected.

Some environmental advocates have concerns that the large-scale production and transport of hydrogen, if not done correctly, could itself become a new source of pollution and further contribute to climate change.
