Penn State Extension: In-Person, Virtual Creating A Garden That Welcomes Wildlife Workshop Nov. 11 At Olewine Nature Center, Dauphin County

On November 11, Penn State Extension will host a hybrid workshop in its Home Gardening Series entitled, “Creating A Garden That Welcomes Wildlife.”

Join Penn State Master Gardener Kevin Kelly as he tells his story of incrementally transforming his one-third acre suburban garden, with an abundance of non-native and some invasive plants, into a diverse, functioning landscape more suited to provide habitat for the declining insects, birds, and wildlife that share our planet.

He will discuss native plants, nativars, and design tips to create beauty and a functional landscape.

You will learn--

-- The science between the paradigm shift from a lawn-dominant landscape to one suited for wildlife

-- Creating a balance between the use of natives, nativars, and non-native plants

-- Tips learned during the incremental change

Participants can attend the event either in person or virtually. Attendees will learn how to bring wildlife to their garden and what plants will provide the best habitat.

The in-person event will be held at the Olewine Nature Center in Wildwood Park, 100 Wildwood Way, Harrisburg, Dauphin County from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
