PA Resources Council Announces Winners Of 2023 Gene Capaldi Lens On Litter Photo Contest

On November 27, the PA Resources Council announced the winners of the 2023 Gene Capaldi Lens On Litter Photo Contest from the enthusiastic submissions from all across Pennsylvania.

Student Category

In the student category, the winner of the $500 first place prize is Jason Joniec of  Millersville, a 17-yr. old 12th grade student at Penn Manor High School.

Jason’s photo titled “Natural Grown Couch” pictures an abandoned couch bordering a wooded area.

The judges awarded the second place prize of $250 to Christianna Wright from Fenelton, a 17-yr. old 11th grade student at Butler Area Senior High School.

Christianna’s photo titled “Peck out Litter” shows a bird feeder sadly filled to the brim with trash.

The third place prize of $100 was won by Brodie Bard, a 16-yr. old 11th grade student from Pittsburgh who attends the Pittsburgh Science & Technology Academy.

Brodie’s photo titled “A Water Bottle Wonderland” depicts discarded water bottles along a river with a picturesque skyline in the distance.

Adult Category

The winner of the $500 first place prize in the adult category was Jason Bye of Pittsburgh.

Jason’s photo titled “Let’s Not Walk Away From Trash” shows a crosswalk signal surrounded by mounds of litter.

The judges awarded the second place prize of $250 to Cassie Frack of York.

Her photo titled “Unintended Catch” pictures a dead bird sadly caught in fishing line left hanging from a tree.

Larissa Gula of Carnegie was awarded the third place prize of $100 for her photo titled “Off Roading: Dumpsite Edition,” picturing a toy vehicle amongst dumped tires and other debris.

Exposure Leads To Prevention!

The objective of PRC’s Lens on Litter Contest is to focus public attention on the problems of litter in Pennsylvania.

Photos help to heighten litter consciousness by showing how it threatens public health and safety, scenic beauty, property values, the environment, pets and wildlife.

PRC encourages students and adults to enter the 2024 Lens on Litter Contest, which opens for entries on January 1st and closes October 31st.
