DCNR Help Mapping Trees

Assessing and mapping a community’s street and park trees can be a valuable tool in the management of our urban forests.

Many municipalities don’t have street and park tree inventories, while others might have collected some data on paper years ago, but don’t know how to use and manage the data.  

TreeKeeper is a free mapping and inventory tool now available from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to any community in Pennsylvania.

TreeKeeper allows users to house and easily update their community’s tree inventory data, create work plans, and record grant-funded trees.

The online mapping tool allows communities to visually display their street and park trees, along with potential planting spaces.

Input Needed On Forestry Programing

The Extension Urban and Community Forestry team is surveying the public to help gather information on its educational programming for the next few years.

Complete our survey by February 2 for a chance to win Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream.

As part of the planning process, the team seeks feedback through an online survey on the types of educational resources people prefer or they see as essential to managing urban and community forests.

The survey is intended to gather input from a range of clients, including municipal employees, volunteer commissioners, and elected officials, as well as professionals, including landscape architects and arborists, and interested citizens and community volunteers, including Tree Tenders.
