On January 31, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission announced the award of more than $150,000 in grant funds to organizations that are dedicated to the health and quality of our local watersheds.

The Stream & Watershed Enhancement Grant program is supporting 34 community-based environmental and water resource projects or events that will improve, restore or protect our Basin’s waterways.

“Local watershed groups, often small and volunteer-driven, are absolutely vital when it comes to safeguarding our creeks and streams,” said SRBC Executive Director Andrew Dehoff. “The variety and creativity of submissions this first year were inspiring. We are thrilled to support their goals, and, with each project, bring us all one step closer to the shared vision of a healthier and more vibrant Susquehanna River Basin.”

Awardees include county conservation districts, environmental volunteer groups, school districts, universities, municipalities and even one fire department.

Community gardens, an ADA-accessible boat launch, water trail signage, microplastics monitoring, water rescue equipment, and a pollinator meadow are just a few examples of the exciting projects soon to benefit the Basin.
