DEP To Hold May 21 Meeting/Hearing On Renewal Of Air Quality Permit For Covanta Municipal Waste Combustion Units In Montgomery County

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the April 6 PA Bulletin inviting comments on a proposed renewal of a Title V Air Quality Permit for the Covanta Plymouth Municipal Waste Combustion units located in Plymouth Twp., Montgomery County. (PA Bulletin, page 1865) The potential emissions from the facility are as follows: 246.3 tons per year (tpy) carbon monoxide, 0.008 tpy Lead, 93 tpy hydrogen chloride, 520.3 tpy nitrogen oxides, 0.0075 tpy Mercury, 53.1 tpy particulate matter, 163.2 tpy sulfur oxides, and 24.99 tpy volatile organic compounds. DEP will hold a public meeting/hearing on the application May 21 at the Aclamo Community Center, 801 W. Marshall Street in Norristown starting at 6:00 p.m. To register to speak at the hearing, please contact Ms. Stephanie Berardi, Regional Communications Manager, at sberardi@pa.gov or call 484-250-5808. Speakers must pre-register in order to testify at the hearing. The last day to pre-register to speak at the hearing will be May 14, 2024. Comments are due May 6 and may be submitted through the Air Quality resource account at RA-EPSEROAQPUBCOM@pa.gov.
