Recognized by both the Pennsylvania State House and Senate, April 28-May 4, 2024 has been declared “Conservation District Week.” During this week, district offices across the state will hold events and meet with legislators in their home counties.

Each county has a conservation district office except Philadelphia.

These volunteer directors and staff address resource concerns in their community. These are your neighbors who are working to prevent pollution in your backyard. That deserves to be celebrated!

“Conservation District Week celebrates and highlights the work of conservation districts across the state to control pollution,” said Brenda J. Shambaugh, Executive Director of the PA Association of Conservation Districts. Each and every day conservation district staff work to ensure there is enough clean water and healthy soil for future generations.”

The prime sponsor of the Conservation District Week resolution in the Senate is Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming) Senate Resolution 276.  Rep. Eddie Pashinski (D- Luzerne) sponsored the formal citation in the House.

Conservation districts thank Governor Josh Shapiro and members of the PA House and Senate for supporting the districts through the state budget. State funding assists with conservation planning, project development and installation.

This work ensures critical conservation practices are put in place enhancing and protecting Pennsylvania’s natural resources.

Conservation districts continue to review permits, provide assistance to farmers, assist municipalities in preparing to fix low-volume roads and dirt and gravel roads throughout the state, and help control mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and Zika Virus.
