Northeast Pennsylvania Environmental Partners Announce Award Recipients; Recognition Dinner Oct. 17 In Luzerne County

On July 22, The Northeast Environmental Partners announced the recipients of the 34th Annual Environmental Partnership Awards.

Awardees will be honored at the Evening for Northeast Pennsylvania’s Environment on October 17, at the Woodlands Inn & Resort in Plains, Luzerne County.

Environmental Partnership Awards

Recipients of the 34th Annual Environmental Partnership Awards:

-- Anthracite Bicycle Coalition, Lackawanna County

-- Deborah Pike & the Dallas Intermediate School “Turtle Titans,” Luzerne County

-- Forest City Outdoor Town Action Team, Susquehanna County

-- Lacawac Sanctuary’s Pocono Lake Ecological Observatory Network (PLEON), Wayne County

-- Lackawanna/Luzerne County Master Watershed Stewards, Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties

-- Susquehanna Brewing Company, Luzerne County

Emerging Environmental Leader Award

The 2024 Emerging Environmental Leader Award will be presented to Michelena DeNaples, Lackawanna County.

Michelena has demonstrated exceptional motivation and passion for conservation. As a member of the 2023-2024 Young Ambassador Program with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, Michelena led her fellow Scranton Prep students in volunteer events with a focus on environmental issues.

Her Parks Conservation group planted hundreds of trees, collected trash, and cleared invasive plants along the Lackawanna Heritage Trail and the Lackawanna River.

Thomas P. Shelburne Environmental Leadership Award

The 30th Annual Thomas P. Shelburne Environmental Leadership Award will be presented to Grant Genzlinger, Wayne County.

Mr. Genzlinger has played a pivotal role as a conservation leader since the 1970s. Throughout his tenure, he has effectively bridged connections between individuals in both private and public sectors.

His extensive network spans local and broader geographical areas, enabling him to facilitate collaborations that solve problems and enhance efficiency.

Known for his outspoken nature, he offers valuable insights derived from years of experience. His dedication is unwavering as he tirelessly advocates for awareness and access to the natural splendor of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Genzlinger remains steadfast in his commitment to safeguarding and promoting our rivers, waterways, and woodlands.

Awards Dinner

Awardees will be honored at the Evening for Northeast Pennsylvania’s Environment on October 17, 2024, at the Woodlands Inn & Resort in Plains, Luzerne County.

This year’s Emcee will be Mr. James Hamill, Senior PTN Correspondent & Public Relations at Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.
