The Shade Creek Watershed Association will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on September 21 with an open house at its offices at 1221 No. 1 Road in Cairnbrook, Somerset County from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The Association is an all volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to protect and restore water and fish habitat of the Shade Creek Watershed.  Its primary focus is water monitoring and treatment on Dark Shade Creek and its tributaries.

Thanks to the cleanup and restoration efforts of the Shade Creek Watershed Association in conjunction with the Dark Shade Brownfields Project, native brook trout were reintroduced into Shingle Run in 2008.

Association members also constructed a passive treatment system for the Reitz #1 Abandoned Mine Discharge, which impacts Laurel Run, another trib to Dark Shade Creek.

The open house features field trips to the Reitz #4 and State Game Lands 228 passive mine drainage treatment systems, videos and poster presentations.
