Western PA Coalition For Abandoned Mine Reclamation Receives Additional Funding For Quick Response Mine Drainage Treatment Project Emergency Repairs

For the past 16 years, the Western PA Coalition for Abandoned Mine Reclamation’s Quick Response program provided Growing Greener funding for emergency repairs for Growing Greener- eligible water restoration projects which includes passive treatment systems.

Now, in addition to funding from the Growing Greener program, Quick Response will provide an additional source of funding from the US Office of Surface Mining’s Watershed Cooperative Agreement Program exclusively for repairs to Abandoned Mine Drainage treatment systems.

The WCAP Quick Response can get reimbursements to you quicker than our traditional Quick Response, often within 2 weeks.

What this means to you

Simply put, if you have an AMD treatment system that is in need of repair, contact your DEP Mining Watershed Manager and tell them what you need.

The Mining Watershed Manager will, in turn, contact WPCAMR and see which funding source, Growing Greener or WCAP will be the best fit for that repair.

Once the Mining Watershed Manager has contacted WPCAMR, you will be provided with the appropriate Quick Response application and instructions.

If you have a non-AMD water quality BMP (eg. Streambank erosion BMP or other Growing Greener-eligible water quality BMP), contact your DEP Regional Watershed Manager and let that person know your needs.

The Regional Watershed Manager will contact WPCAMR to discuss the project details then you will be provided with the non-AMD Quick Response application.

WPCAMR is grateful to the OSMRE’s Watershed Cooperative Agreement program for providing an additional funding source for AMD repair projects and to the Growing Greener program for providing Quick Response funding for AMD and non-AMD projects looks forward to assisting eligible organizations with their repair needs.
