Southwestern PA Water Network To Host Confluence At Mingo Creek - A Celebration Of Watersheds Sept. 28 In Washington County

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Network will host the Confluence at Mingo Creek: A Celebration of Watersheds on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Shelter No. 5 in Mingo Creek County Park, 232 Mingo Creek Road, Eighty Four, Washington County.

The audience for the Confluence at Mingo Creek are those that enjoy working toward attractive streams and communities that benefit from pristine waters. It means professionals, volunteers, and community leaders, and their families.

Through hands-on activities and participation attendees will learn popular tools for watershed stewardship and celebrate the dedication and hard work of volunteers.

The gathering is a wonderful opportunity to relax, connect with fellow volunteers, and enjoy the great outdoors.

The goals for the Confluence are to:

-- Increase awareness and participation in the Network;

-- Increase knowledge of best practices, trends, and changes related to the watershed stewardship and our natural resources;

-- Develop new leadership opportunities and action items for the Network;

-- Foster new collaborations and plans among stakeholders to advance natural resource - centered outdoor recreation.

“We believe that by coming together at the periodic Confluences, we can harness the collective knowledge, expertise, and passion of our community to drive positive change and ensure the sustainability of our water resources for generations to come.

June Confluence

On June 14th the Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Network’s first Confluence of 2024 brought together passionate individuals, organizations, and experts to Confluence, PA for a day of collaboration, innovation, and actionable solutions for protecting the water resources of the Upper Ohio River Basin.

Held both in-person and virtually, Confluence 2024 provided a dynamic platform for attendees to engage in meaningful discussions, participate in outdoor activities, and be inspired by insightful presentations.

The event featured roundtable discussions and resource tables around the nexus of outdoor recreation and water quality, offering countless opportunities for learning and networking.

"The Confluence at Confluence was a success," said John Detisch, President of the SW PA Water Network. "The enthusiasm and dedication of our participants highlight the community's commitment to water stewardship. This event truly showcased the power of collaboration in driving positive change for our water resources."

Key highlights from the Confluence at Confluence included:

-- Engaging Discussions: Experts and advocates led thought-provoking roundtables on pressing water issues, from conservation strategies to data collaboration and mapping.

-- Inspiring Presentations: Julie Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, and Jessica Bryzek from the AmeriCorps VISTA program in West Virginia, shared their expertise and vision, motivating participants to take action in their communities.

-- Networking Opportunities: The event facilitated connections among like-minded individuals and organizations, fostering a strong community dedicated to water stewardship.

"I was thrilled to engage with so many organizations I had never met before, seeing where there is overlap in our work that we didn't recognize previously," added John Stephen, Strategic Coordinator for the Network. “The event empowered individuals and organizations to make a tangible difference and we intend to continue that effort at Mingo Creek."

Participants left the event with renewed energy, ready to implement new ideas and strategies in their own communities.
