Horn Farm Agricultural Education Center Launches New Ecological Restoration Certification, Ecological Gardener Training Programs
|
On September 10, the York County-based Horn Farm Agricultural Education Center announced it is launching two training programs focused on ecological stewardship-- new, 3-day Ecological Restoration Certificate Program starts this winter on Saturday, December 14 and the 4th annual Ecological Gardener Training program which begins on February 9 and runs for 16 weeks. Are you interested in deepening your connection with the natural landscape? Looking for ways to have a positive, lasting impact on struggling local ecosystems? Want to help restore environmental health at home, at your school, or in your community? In partnership with Waxwing EcoWorks and Reviving Wisdom, the Horn Farm Center is offering two immersive programs exploring how we can partner with nature to support long-term ecological and human wellbeing. The Ecological Restoration Certificate provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience in restoring degraded ecosystems and creating healthy, resilient habitat for wildlife on a variety of scales. Active or aspiring landscape practitioners, local conservation volunteers, and landowners will all find benefit in this three-day deep-dive that covers skills “in the field.” The program takes place over three Saturdays–December 14th, January 11th, and January 25th–with weather days set aside to ensure outdoor learning is possible. Spaces are limited. Click Here to learn more and to register. The Ecological Gardener Training Program, entering its fourth year at the Horn Farm Center, offers 16 weekly sessions beginning in February, 2025. Participants will study native plants, local ecology, and regional landscape patterns to inform the design, creation, and stewardship of biodiverse native habitat gardens. From active and aspiring landscape professionals to homeowners, teachers, and students, anyone interested in learning how to design and nurture beautiful, ecological gardens is encouraged to join this program. Beyond building a practical basis for ecological gardening, participants leave this program with a deepened sense of place and connection with local landscapes. Click Here to learn more and apply. Both programs are facilitated by passionate, dynamic, and professional local experts with years of experience in holistic land stewardship. NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED to participate. Program costs are $495 for the Ecological Restoration Certificate and $1390 for the Ecological Gardener Training Program. Payment plans are available upon request, and scholarships may be available but are not guaranteed.
