The Litter Lifters of West Vincent Township in Chester County conducted their 4th annual litter cleanup in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day on Saturday January 18. With the safety detail of Pennsylvania State Police and West Vincent Township Police, 30 volunteers filled 50 bags with litter along one township road and three state roads. By removing Litter along heavily traveled Rt 100, the Birch Run and Beaver Run were protected from pollutants. The Litter Lifters believe in protecting open space by keeping the litter off the roads, out of the waterways and out of the cornfields. Volunteers felt good improving the environment for the MLK Day of Servie. They also made new friends and got exercise. Wawa supported the event with breakfast treats and piping hot coffee! Thank you Trooper Ebony Robinson from Pennsylvania State Police, Officer Ryan Ohar from West Vincent Township Police, and Wawa for consistently providing food for the volunteers. Thank you PennDOT, who will haul away the litter piles as the Litter Lifters are an Adopt A Highway participant. Thank you Owen J Roberts high school students who showed up on time at 7:30 a.m. with smiles! Special shout out to Dale Biegel and Priya for managing the set up and return of the Litter crew ahead signs. This is no easy task, as they are quite heavy and bulky! The Litter Lifters of West Vincent Township is an Ad Hoc committee, possibly the only one in the state of Pennsylvania wholly dedicated to Litter management. This group of dedicated volunteers not only cleans up their own municipality, but also helps other townships create litter management strategies. By working with government, residents, and businesses, they are cleaning up Chester County and making a difference. For more information contact Litterliftersofwestvincent@gmail.com.
