The Department of Environmental published notice in the February 15 PA Bulletin inviting comments on a proposed Advanced Restoration Plan for impaired waters [as opposed to a TMDL Plan] in subwatersheds of the Fishing Creek Watershed in Lancaster County. (PA Bulletin, page 1599) The Fishing Creek watershed is impaired for aquatic life. The impairments addressed by this document were listed as being caused by excessive siltation due to agriculture. In addition to improving local water quality, implementation of this proposed plan may help protect the watershed’s recreational value as well as its wild trout and Chesapeake Logperch populations. The Donegal Chapter of Trout Unlimited would take the leading role in plan implementation. Click Here for a copy of the Alternative Plan. Comments are due 30 days after this notice (March 17). Questions should be directed to Michael Morris at michamorri@pa.gov or call 717-772-5670. For more information on environmental programs in Pennsylvania, visit DEP’s website.
