Registration Open! Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium May 6-7 In Harrisburg

Groundwater professionals, natural resource managers, educators, and anyone interested in the management and protection of water resources are invited to attend the 12th annual Pennsylvania Groundwater Symposium happening May 7 at the Best Western Conference Center in Harrisburg, preceded by an optional day-long field trip to several acid mine drainage treatment sites in the Shamokin Creek watershed. 

Keynote speakers are scheduled to include Jessica Shirley, DEP Acting Secretary and Dr. Susan L. Brantley, Atherton Professor and Evan Pugh University Professor Emerita of Geosciences at Penn State University.

Registration is $80 for professionals, $50 for students and volunteers in the Penn State Extension Master Well Owner Network.

The fee includes conference materials, lunch, and refreshments. The pre-conference tour is $65 and includes bus transportation, lunch, and refreshments. Seats are limited. Early registration is encouraged. 

Participants who attend the symposium are eligible for up to .75 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Those who also attend the tour are eligible for another .5 CEUs.

Still Time to Submit Presentation Proposals

The deadline for presentation abstracts is February 28. Abstracts are welcome on a variety of groundwater topics, including but not limited to groundwater monitoring, climate impacts on groundwater, data availability and access, groundwater processes, karst groundwater systems, wellhead protection, water well studies, emerging contaminants, aquifer studies, groundwater/surface water interactions, issues related to energy extraction, well decommissioning, groundwater education and outreach, and water policy.

The symposium is sponsored by Penn State Extension, the Department of Environmental Protection, the PA Water Resources Research Center, and the Penn State College of Agriculture Sciences.

Major partners include the USGS, DCNR, the Pennsylvania Groundwater Association, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission, and the Penn State Extension Master Well Owner Network (MWON).
