Center For Coalfield Justice, MIT Researchers Host April 17 Public Meeting In Washington County On An Upcoming Seismic Study In Southwestern PA

The Center for Coalfield Justice and researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will host an April 17 public meeting on an upcoming seismic study in Southwestern PA to be held at the American Legion Post 175 at 168 Park Avenue in Washington, Washington County from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

For over a decade, many residents living in our region have experienced vibrations inside their homes at an increasing rate.

From 1973-2008 the central and eastern US had an average of 25 earthquakes of magnitude three and larger (M3+) per year.

Since 2008 we have averaged over 200 earthquakes of M3+ per year.

To learn more, the Center teamed up with Dr. William Frank and his team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology to deploy seismic monitors throughout our community.

Dr. Frank will discuss his study being conducted in our community.
