Game Commission Proposes Procedures to Protect Birds, Bats from Windmills
|
|
The Game Commission this week released a model agreement and procedures it would like wind energy companies to follow in siting and operating wind energy facilities. The proposed wind energy agreement calls for facility developers to notify the Game Commission at least 14 months prior to developing new or expanded windmill sites and require one year pre-construction and two year post-construction monitoring for impacts on birds and bats in most cases. The Commission suggested alternative requirements for projects now underway. The specific procedures the Commission would like to see followed where also released: bird evaluation, bat evaluation and a bird and bat mortality study.
