A student project from Lehigh University that will try to find a way to safely dispose of sludge with high levels of toxic arsenic was one of the university projects funded under the U.S. Environmental Protection P3: People, Prosperity and Planet Student Design Competition for Sustainability Program.

This national competition, sponsored by EPA's Office of Research and Development, enables college students to create sustainable solutions to environmental problems through technology innovation. These sustainable solutions must be environmentally friendly, efficiently use natural resources and be economically competitive.

Each P3 award includes funding up to $75,000 that gives the students an opportunity to further develop their designs and move them to the marketplace.
