Public Invited to Meetings on Conewago River Conservation Plan

The public is invited to a series of three public meetings on the final draft of the Conewago Creek Watershed Conservation Plan in Adams, Cumberland and York counties.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council, in cooperation with the Watershed Alliance of Adams County, the Watershed Alliance of York County, the York and Adams County Planning Commissions and Conservation Districts and other partners helped produce the Plan.

Meetings will all start at 7:00 p.m. on the following dates: October 30 at the National Apple Museum, 154 W. Hanover Street, Biglerville; November 5, at Ski Roundtop Summit Room, Main Lodge, 925 Roundtop Road, Lewisberry; and November 7, at the Guthrie Memorial Library (John D. Bare Center), 2 Library Place, Hanover.

Local elected officials, appointed officials, landowners, residents, and anyone interested in water use, land use, recreation, agriculture, and historic preservation are invited to offer comment about proposed activities, as well volunteer to help make the proposals happen within the Watershed.

Throughout the planning process, there have been several opportunities for public involvement, including talking with stakeholders, landowners, organizations and municipalities.

When completed, the Conewago Creek Watershed Conservation Plan will be added to the state registry and the projects recommended in the plan will be eligible for additional Rivers Conservation Program funding.

A grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources helped pay for developing the Conservation Plan. The Plan includes an inventory and analysis of conditions, a mapping database and a management action plan for the Watershed.
