Susquehanna River Basin Commission Deputy Director and Counsel Thomas W. Beauduy this week was elected chair of the Interstate Council on Water Policy, a national organization whose members represent state and regional water resource agencies. ICWP, which was established in 1959 to give states a voice on national water policy matters, focuses on water quality and water quantity issues and the relationship between local, state and federal policies, programs and regulations. As chair, Beauduy will work with ICWP board of directors, staff and members on a range of water resource issues including dam safety, floodplain management, groundwater management, nonpoint source pollution, water quality standards, water conservation, drought and emergency management, wetlands protection, state water rights, climate change, hydropower licensing, endangered species and habitat and water supply. “Tom has served as the Commission’s representative on ICWP for many years, and we are very pleased he has now been entrusted with this important leadership role,” said Paul Swartz, SRBC Executive Director. “His extensive background and experience on water policy and regulatory matters will serve ICWP well. ICWP is a good fit not only for the state and federal members, but also for the river basin commissions that manage water resources on a watershed basis, not based on political boundaries.” |
