Help Wanted: DEP Seeking Nominations for Solid Waste Advisory Committee

The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking nominations for the Solid Waste Advisory Committee. The committee currently has four vacancies.

There are openings for two private citizens, a public official and a representative with an economic interest in solid waste management.

The membership of the committee consists of equivalent proportions of the following four stakeholder groups: private citizens, representatives of public interest groups, public officials, and citizens or representatives of organizations with substantial economic interest in solid waste management.

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee was created in 1980 by the Solid Waste Management Act. The committee’s function is to advise DEP on rules, regulations, standards, criteria, and procedures as it deems necessary and advisable for implementation of the act and recommended changes to the statewide Solid Waste Management Plan.

Members of SWAC serve concurrently on the Recycling Fund Advisory Committee.

Interested parties should submit a letter indicating the stakeholder group they would represent and resume to: DEP, Bureau of Waste Management, SWAC Recording Secretary, P.O. Box 8471, Harrisburg, PA, 17105-8471.

To obtain nomination information or information on SWAC, contact Pat Stape, SWAC Recording Secretary, by phone at 717 787-9870; or send email to Patricia Stape at pstape@state.pa.us .
