After serving as interim executive director for almost four months, Jennifer Adkins has been appointed to the position of executive director of the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.

“After a nationwide search that yielded many applicants from a wide variety of business sectors, the search committee and the entire Partnership board feel extremely confident we selected the most qualified candidate to lead this organization in its advocacy of the Delaware Estuary,” said Robert Goldman of Duffield Associates and chairman of the Partnership’s board.

Adkins began her tenure with the nonprofit organization in 2005 when she began managing a $1.15 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to fund a series of projects undertaken by the Schuylkill Action Network, a coalition of more than 100 member-organizations that is currently working to improve water quality throughout the Schuylkill River watershed in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

“I’m thrilled to take the helm of this dynamic organization with such a bright future,” said Adkins. “The many relationships I’ve built throughout the environmental community in this region should come in handy during our efforts to bridge many jurisdictions throughout three states to increase awareness, understanding, and scientific knowledge about the Delaware Estuary.”

In addition to working as a self-employed contractor and consultant for a number of nonprofit organizations, Adkins has held positions with The Nature Conservancy of Delaware, the Land Trust Alliance, and the Brandywine Conservancy during her 15-year career in conservation.

Adkins is a graduate of the University of Delaware and holds a master of public administration degree, specializing in environmental and energy management, as well as a bachelor of science degree in economics. Today she resides in the City of Wilmington near the Partnership’s Riverwalk headquarters.
