Transition: Friends Mourn Passing of Mazie Mohney

Former Executive Deputy Secretary for the Department of Mines and Mineral Industries Mazie Mohney passed away on October 28 at her Camp Hill home. Mohney, 85, was the first women in the nation to hold an executive deputy position at a governmental agency. After her retirement she was a special consultant for the Director of U.S. Bureau of Mines in Washington, D.C., the Anthracite Industry, and two engineering firms in the Harrisburg area. She was a recipient of the Touchstone Award issued by the Pennsylvania Society of Women Environmental Professionals, and served as a member of Citizens Advisory Council to the Department of Environmental Resources. In 1968 she was the first woman to give the principal address at the Annual Meeting of the Coal Mining Institute of America in Pittsburgh. She is survived by her husband Franklin H. Mohney of Camp Hill, a son and three grandchildren. |
