John Klunk, Codorus Creek, Wins 2004 River Hero Award

John Klunk, long time activist with the Codorus Creek Improvement Partnership, was recognized as one of the River Network’s four 2004 River Heroes.

Klunk helped organize water monitoring teams on the Codorus to pinpoint the cause of water quality issues in the stream. After documenting his case, he pursued actions with both the Department of Environmental Protection and P.H. Glatfelter to achieve water quality improvements.

One result was a $2.5 million settlement with Glatfelter to help improve water quality in the creek.

Past winners of the River Network’s River Hero Award include David Hess, former Secretary Department of Environmental Protection.
