The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this week commended more than 150 businesses for working to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, including three companies in Pennsylvania, during the agency’s Climate Leaders Conference.

"EPA's Climate Leaders partners are proving that businesses don't need to break the bank to do what's good for the environment," said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. "From Main Street to Wall Street, companies are reducing their climate footprints in cost-effective ways – keeping America on track to meet President Bush's greenhouse gas reduction goal."

GHG reductions pledged through Climate Leaders are estimated to prevent the emissions equivalent to more than eight million cars annually.

Among the companies recognized were PPG Industries Inc., Pittsburgh which adopted more aggressive greenhouse gas emission reduction goals and two new Climate Partners-- ACE Group of Companies., Philadelphia and Mantria Corp., Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Since 2002, Climate Leaders has provided guidance and recognition to leading companies to help them develop and implement comprehensive climate change strategies.

Other Climate Partners in Pennsylvania include: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Allentown, Alcoa, Inc., Pittsburgh, Mack Trucks, Inc., Allentown and U.S. Steel, Pittsburgh.

A complete list of Climate Leaders partners is available online.
