Annual Native Plant Sale Scheduled for May 2-3 in Emmaus

The Wildlands Conservancy will host its annual Native Plant Sale on May 2-3 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus, Pa.

Native wildflowers, grasses, trees, shrubs, and vines will be on sale. Master Gardeners will be on site to offer advice and answer questions. Members of the Wildlands Conservancy will receive a discount on plant sales. This Native Plant Sale is sponsored by East Penn Bank.

Pennsylvania’s native plants are plant species that lived and thrived in this area before it was colonized by Europeans in the 1600s. Native plants are well adapted to similar soil, moisture and weather conditions of the area making them more apt to survive the winter cold and summer heat.

They are resistant to most pests and diseases and require no irrigation or fertilization once established. Native plants are important for storm water management, erosion control, air and water quality, landscape aesthetics, recreational opportunities, food and habitat for wildlife.

“Many of our Lehigh Valley neighbors anticipate this event every year. Customers leave with a beautiful plant and knowing that they are doing their part to help the environment,” states Maureen Ruhe, director of environmental education.
