House Committee OKs Energy Savings, Waste Tire Legislation

House Environmental Resources & Energy Committee amended and approved three other bills this week, but withdrew House Bill 2619 (Dailey-D-Washington) from consideration which would require water well driller certification.

House Bill 2035 (McIlhenney-R-Bucks) which sets energy efficiency standards for certain appliances was amended to included additional appliances to conform to the proposals made by Gov. Rendell as part of his Growing Greener III initiative.

House Bill 2370 (McIlhenney-R-Bucks) eliminates sales tax on certain energy efficient appliances for two years was amended to also bring it more in line with Gov. Rendell’s green tax holiday proposal.

Rep. McIlhenney indicated further changes to both bills would be forthcoming as discussions with the Administration progress on these issues.

House Bill 2289 (Yudichak-D-Luzerne) which changes the Waste Tire Recycling Act to require a waste tire recycling facility to have a waste processing permit from DEP was reported out without amendment.
