* DCNR Says 1,600 Of 2.2 Million Acres Of State Forest Land Disturbed By Drilling

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources told the Senate Appropriations Committee Wednesday about 1,600 acres of DCNR’s 2.2 million acres of State Forest land are now disturbed by Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling pads and pipelines.

* 5 Things We Learned From Senate, House Hearings On DCNR’s Budget

The Senate and House Appropriations Committee hearings on Gov. Wolf’s proposed budget for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are now complete.  Here are five things we learned as a result of those hearings--

Four environmental conservation and education programs from throughout Western Pennsylvania will share $20,000 from Dominion and the PA Environmental Council for innovation and effectiveness in making a positive impact on the Western Pennsylvania environment.

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice in the April 4 PA Bulletin of a proposed final Chapter 78 (conventional) and Chapter 78A (unconventional) drilling performance standard regulations for a 30 day public comment period with no additional public hearings.

* Analysis: Myth-- Conventional Oil And Gas Drilling Is Benign

Representatives of the conventional (non-Marcellus Shale) oil and gas industry in Pennsylvania are trying to perpetuate the myth that conventional drilling is “benign” and doesn’t affect the environment.

* House Committee Hearing April 20 On DEP’s Handling Of Drilling Regulations

The House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on April 20 on DEP’s handling of the proposed final version of the Chapter 78 (conventional) and 78A (Marcellus Shale) drilling regulations.  [Note: The date of this hearing may be changing.]

* House Committee Hears Electric, Natural Gas Industries Priorities For Coming Year

The House Consumer Affairs Committee Tuesday held an informational meeting to learn about electric and natural gas industry priorities for the coming year.

On April 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Penn State Agricultural and Environment Center will host a free community workshop on The Homeowner’s Guide to Stormwater. * Paddle Without Pollution Offers New Way To Support Watershed Stewardship

Pittsburgh-based Paddle Without Pollution’s 2015 Spring Fundraising Campaign kicked off Wednesday on Indiegogo.com, the largest global fundraising site. The non-profit organization’s goal is to raise $8000 in 60 days to support this year’s watershed stewardship campaign.

* NRCS Grants Now Available To Protect, Restore Farmland, Grasslands, Wetlands

Natural Resources Conservation Service Pennsylvania State Conservationist Denise Coleman Thursday announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture is making available $2.8 million in financial and technical assistance through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP).

The Department of Environmental Protection held a public hearing on March 31 to accept comments on an air quality plan approval application from Perdue Grain and Oil Seed LLC for the installation of a grain elevator and a soybean oil extraction facility in Conoy Township, Lancaster County.
