* EPA National, Regional Officials Tour PA Dairy Farms To Highlight Clean Water, Climate, Farm Benefits Of Corporate Partnerships

On March 23, officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and representatives from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay were in the field meeting with dairy farmers in Pennsylvania and key corporate partners to discuss collaborative efforts that support local dairy farmers by promoting healthy farms, clean water, and other environmental benefits.

* Farm Conservation Excellence Grants Expanded To Seven Counties, $5 Million Awarded

The State Conservation Commission announced it has expanded the Conservation Excellence Grant Program to seven counties and awarded over $5 million for the installation of farm best management practices.

* NFWF Chesapeake Bay Program Offers Cost Share For Farms To Implement Split Applications Of Nitrogen

The National Fish & Wildlife Foundation Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Program has funded a project by the PA 4R Alliance to provide farmers in the Bay Watershed with cost share funding for split applications of nitrogen.  The deadline for applications is April 4.

* A Voluntary Settlement Of An EHB Appeal By All Parties Requires Developers Of A Bradford County Liquified Natural Gas Facility To Apply For New Air Quality Permit

On March 18, PennFuture, Clean Air Council, the Sierra Club, Bradford County Real Estate Partners-- developers of a liquified natural gas plant-- and the Department of Environmental Protection agreed a new air quality permit would be needed for continued development of the LNG facility in a settlement of an appeal before the Environmental Hearing Board. 

* Republican House Bill Contains Natural Gas Industry Wish List Of Measures To Expand Natural Gas Drilling, Subsidize Pipeline Expansion, Automatically Approve Well Permits, Preempt Local Governments

On March 23, Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) introduced House Bill 2444 that contains a natural gas industry wish list of measures they want to expand natural gas drilling, subsidize pipeline expansion using DCNR Oil and Gas Fund revenue, automatically approve of well permits and preempting local government regulation of all facilities regulated by DEP.

* Republican Rep. Fritz Introduces Bills To Unilaterally Amend Delaware River Basin Commission Compact To End Fracking Moratorium

Rep. Jonathan Fritz (R-Wayne) has introduced two new bills continuing his years-long effort to end the Delaware River Basin Commission moratorium on shale gas fracking that has been in place in one form or another since 2010.

* 6th Oil/Natural Gas Shock: U.S. - European Commission Agreement Calls For Reducing Demand For All Natural Gas And Accelerating Deployment Of Clean Energy Measures

On March 25, the United States and the European Commission came to an agreement on how to address Europe’s need for natural gas through the next two winters by diversifying liquefied natural gas supplies “in alignment with climate objectives” to end Europe’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels. On March 22, Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced the Office of Attorney General’s Environmental Crimes Section has charged James Muir, the former owner of M&S Sanitation Sewage Disposal and Pike County Environmental, for unlawful conduct that repeatedly violated the Solid Waste Management Act.

On March 22, Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn visited Keystone State Park in Westmoreland County to call attention to the park’s infrastructure needs and how the use of federal pandemic recovery funds could address outdated facilities and public safety preparedness across the state.
