The PA Abandoned Mine Reclamation Conference on October 22-24 in State College honored Schuylkill County’s Bill Reichert with the Mayfly Award to recognize a lifetime of knowledge and expertise dedicated to clean water and the reclamation of abandoned mines in Pennsylvania. 

On November 7, LehighValleyNews.com reported Pennsylvania Audubon recognized Daniel Klem, Director of the Muhlenberg College Acopian Center for Ornithology, with the Walt Pomeroy Conservation Award.

On November 4, the Cecil Township Board of Supervisors in Washington County adopted an ordinance establishing setbacks from shale gas well pads of 2,500 feet from homes and businesses as “protected structures” and 5,000 feet from schools and hospitals.

On November 7, PA Republican Senators introduced Senate Bill 1346 that punishes local elected officials who want to better protect their constituents from the documented adverse health and environmental impacts of shale gas development.

On November 4, Protect PT and Three Rivers Waterkeeper announced they have appealed two permits for the Slickville Pipeline Project issued by the Department of Environmental Protection to the Environmental Hearing Board.

On November 7, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission Hydrologic Conditions Monitor reported another increase in low stream flows that have triggered water withdrawal restrictions on water users, including multiple shale gas development water withdrawals.

On November 6, Delaware River Basin Commission Executive Director Steve Tambini announced a special hearing to be held on November 19 at 1:30 p.m. for the Commission to accept public input on the persistent dry conditions throughout the Delaware River Basin and how to address them.

The PA Municipal League and Sustainable Pittsburgh will host the Sustainable Pennsylvania Conference at the Penn Stater in State College November 20-22.

On November 4, the latest white paper on solar energy facility development in Pennsylvania from LandGate catalogs the potential increase of 11 GW of solar energy capacity in Pennsylvania.

The Community Advocates For Clean Energy will host a November 13 webinar on EPA's Clean School Bus Grant Program from Noon to 1:15 p.m.

The PA Infrastructure Investment Authority is now accepting applications for the Clean Water Project Procurement Program.  The deadline to apply is March 5.

On November 8, the French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust announced the completion of a voluntary conservation agreement with Noel and Janae Billingsley, which ensures the permanent protection of their historic 23-acre farmstead in East Coventry Township, Chester County -- a property that has been in their family for three generations.

The ClearWater Conservancy hosted its Annual Meeting and Celebration on October 17 at Mount Nittany Winery in Centre Hall, Centre County drawing over 100 attendees to honor the community's support for recent conservation successes, recognize outstanding volunteers and supporters, and share exciting updates on the ClearWater Community Conservation Center.

On November 4, ClearWater Conservancy announced it has been awarded $750,000 in grant funding from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to support the construction of a new Community Conservation Center in the heart of the Spring Creek Watershed.

On November 7, the North Branch Land Trust welcomed two new staff to their conservation team: Leah Malarkey, Environmental Education Coordinator and Caroline Chronowski, Office Administrator.
