DEP To Hold Source Water Protection Workshops In Erie May 19, Huntingdon June 24

The Department of Environmental Protection is encouraging water suppliers and local officials to attend free workshops to learn how to collaborate and better protect drinking water sources on May 19 in Erie and in Hesston, Huntingdon County on June 24. The Erie workshop will be held from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Millcreek Township Municipal Building, 3608 W. 26th St., Erie.
The Hesston workshop will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Seven Points Visitor Center, Raystown Lake, 6993 Seven Points Road, Hesston.
The workshop will explain how communities can assess and protect areas surrounding water sources, facilitate better local decision-making on land use and open space preservation, and involve the public in efforts to avoid contamination.
The workshop, sponsored by DEP and the PA League of Women Voters Water Resources Education Network, will also present information about DEP’s source water protection technical assistance program.
Pennsylvania Rural Water Association will provide 3.5 contact hours for certified operators.
