Aqua America Publishes Sustainability Report

Aqua America, Inc. announced this week it has completed and published a sustainability report, which highlights various segments of its operations and efforts the company is making to sustain its own business as well as make a positive impact on the environment and the communities in which it operates.
The announcement was made during a presentation by the company’s Chief Environmental Officer Preston Luitweiler. Among the topics addressed in the sustainability report are infrastructure, water production and delivery, customer usage, wastewater reuse, residuals management, watershed protection, energy resources, and alternative energy.
The report focuses primarily on Aqua America’s Pennsylvania subsidiary, which is the largest and oldest of its operating units, accounting for more than half of the company’s revenue and nearly half of its customer base.
Aqua America Chairman and CEO Nicholas DeBenedictis alluded to the company’s history as an indicator of its sustainability. “Aqua America traces its beginning back to 1886 and fully expects to provide services to a continuously growing number of customers well into the future. We understand that a key component to our sustainability is our capital investment program that has allowed us to continue to provide quality drinking water and reliable service to an increasing number of customers over the past century.”
            The report is available online.
