10 Students Win PA American Water Stream Of Learning Scholarships

Pennsylvania American Water Monday announced 10 students throughout Pennsylvania, including four high school seniors from the Pittsburgh area, have been selected to receive Stream of Learning Scholarships.

This is the fourth year that Pennsylvania American Water offered the program to support outstanding students within its service areas who are charting a course of study that is critical to the water and wastewater industry, with each winning student receiving a $2,000 scholarship.

Locally, Pennsylvania American Water awarded scholarships to Joshua Bowman and Rachel Crane of Peters Township High School, Robin Crowley of Trinity High School and Garrett Green of Thomas Jefferson High School.

A panel of judges selected the winners from more than 150 scholarship applicants, who were evaluated on such criteria as academic achievement, letters of recommendation, community service and future careers plans in the water and wastewater industry.

“These Stream of Learning Scholarship recipients are outstanding students who possess the talent and abilities that are essential to the future of our industry,” said Pennsylvania American Water President Kathy L. Pape. “We are excited to lend our support not only because of their extraordinary academic achievements, but they also reflect our commitment to environment stewardship and service to the community.”

In addition to the local students, Pennsylvania American Water awarded 2013 Stream of Learning Scholarships to Sarah Folk of Cedar Cliff High School (Cumberland County), Alexander Kearns of Yardley (Bucks County), a student at Johns Hopkins University, Maximillian Ororbia of Lewisburg Area High School (Union County), Michael Joseph Bossman of Pennsbury High School (Bucks County), and Matthew Pietrobono and Eric Rodrigo of Wilson High School (Berks County).
