How Plantings Can Reduce Stormwater Runoff Workshop Sept. 7 In Lancaster
|
Want to learn how to beautify your backyard, save water and prevent pollution in local streams, the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake Bay? If so, sign up for the free Green Your Blues Stormwater Workshop to be held from 9 a.m. to noon on September 7, at the Maple Grove Community Building, 1420 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. Participants will learn how to identify areas of their property where stormwater runoff can be controlled through rain barrels, beautiful rain gardens, native meadows and other stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs). After exploring and assessing the Maple Grove property with stormwater professionals, attendees will also receive a FREE copy of the Homeowner’s Guide to Stormwater to take home. The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Lancaster County Conservation District, Pennsylvania State University’s Lower Susquehanna Initiative, and Chesapeake Bay Foundation are hosting the workshop as members of the Little Conestoga Partnership Initiative; an effort to help alleviate stormwater-related issues in Lancaster County. Representatives from these organizations will be available to answer questions about stormwater and a cost share assistance program for installing BMPs on residential properties within the Little Conestoga Watershed. If you are interested in attending this free workshop, please register by contacting Matt Kofroth, Watershed Coordinator for the Lancaster County Conservation District, at 717-299-5361 x124 or send email to: mattkofroth@lancasterconservation.org. |
