A revised schedule has been set for a new Lunch and Learn series of public programs that is being offered this winter by the Grey Towers Heritage Association to introduce the community to the historic accomplishments of Gifford Pinchot, founder of the U.S. Forest Service and Governor of Pennsylvania, and the public programs offered at his ancestral home, Grey Towers National Historic Site, in Milford, Pike County.

On February 29, at 12 noon, the GTHA and the Pike County Library will present “Gifford Pinchot and the South Seas,” a program about the Pinchot family’s 9-month excursion to the South Seas in the 1920s.

The program will coincide with an exhibit provided by the U.S. Forest Service at the Library with never-before-exhibited artifacts from the trip, including items that the Pinchots brought back to Milford from the Galapagos Islands. (This program is re-scheduled from the original February 1 date).

The program and brown bag lunch will be at 12 noon in the Community Room of the Pike County Library. There is no fee and participants should bring their own lunch. The GTHA will provide coffee. The South Seas exhibit will remain at the Library through mid March.

On March 22 at 11:30 a.m. the GTHA and the US Forest Service will screen the documentary, “Gifford Pinchot’s Conservation Legacy,” one in a series of documentaries produced by WITF that spotlight Pennsylvania’s conservation heritage. A Q&A will follow. (This program is rescheduled from the original March 21 date).

On April 18, at 11:30 a.m. there will be a program on Cornelia Pinchot’s political activism and her role as wife of Gov. Gifford Pinchot.

For the March and April programs at Grey Towers, pre-registration and prepayment is required. The fee is $10 for GTHA members and $14 for non-members and includes a catered lunch and a brief tour of the Grey Towers mansion.

Space is limited. For more information or to reserve your spot, contact the Grey Towers Heritage Association at 570-296-9625 or send email to: info@greytowers.orgClick Here to sign up for regular updates from the Association.
